‘The Onion’ Has a ‘VICE’ Parody in the Works Called ‘EDGE’

The Onion has a new web series in the works with VICE’s HBO series as their target. According to THR, The Onion is set to debut a new VICE parody web series called EDGE next week on Monday, August 3rd. Each episode will run under four minutes. “VICE is wrought with a distinct self-confidence, which of course gets our writers salivating,” The Onion’s George Zwierzynski Jr. said on the news. “The Onion team is highly competitive when it comes to other companies and publishers, so it’s only natural we would take a stab at VICE as a whole.” VICE also gets the parody treatment in Bill Hader, Seth Meyers, and Fred Armisen’s new IFC show Documentary Now! premiering next month.

UPDATE: You can now follow EDGE on Twitter as well as founder/CEO Chase Vaughn and correspondent Nic Moss:

Here’s the recorded message that plays when you call the EDGE Atrocity Tip Line:

Thank you for calling the EDGE Atrocity Tip Line. To report a genocide or campaign of ethnic cleansing, press 1. To report a bloody political purge, press 2. To report roving death squads helmed by a charismatic rogue general, press 3. To report torture in a sprawling network of secret labor camps, press 4. To report packs of glassy-eyed child soldiers watching their villages burn and feeling nothing, press 5. For all other matters of fucked-up nature not previously listed, please press 0. Please note that all outrages against humanity reported after 6:00pm eastern time will be addressed the next business day. Thank you for calling the EDGE Atrocity Tip Line.
