The Wiz: The Moment Shanice Williams Learns She’ll Play Dorothy Will Make You Cry Into Your Desk Lunch

NBC has finally found a Dorothy for its live production of The Wiz: 18-year-old New Jersey native Shanice Williams snagged the part a million girls would kill for through an open casting call. She’ll be joining a host of veteran actors and singers, including Stephanie Mills (who played Dorothy in the original Broadway production) as Auntie Em, Queen Latifah as the Wiz, Mary J. Blige as the Wicked Witch of the West, and, most recently, David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion. The Today show broke the announcement Wednesday morning and has a video of Williams’s audition and the moment when she learned she got the part. Try not to get tears into your sad desk salad.
