Meet ‘Saturday Night Live’s Six New Writers

SNL is gearing up for its season 41 premiere next month, and while they’ve only added one new cast member, there are several new writers joining the staff this year. We’ve learned that SNL has hired UCB performers Fran Gillespie, Sudi Green, and Will Stephen, former Late Show with David Letterman writers Paul Masella and Chris Belair, and standup Dave Sirus, who also performs under the guise of reporter Brick Stone on YouTube. In addition, five writers from last year will no longer be with the show this season: Natasha Rothwell, Alison Rich, Claire Mulaney, Good Neighbor’s Nick Rutherford, and former cast member Mike O’Brien.

Season 41 premieres on October 3rd with host Miley Cyrus.

UPDATE: Mike O’Brien confirmed on Twitter that even though he’s not officially on the writing staff this year, he will continue to make short films for season 41.
