Actually, There Won’t Be a Coach Reboot Series at NBC After All

NBC has decided to sack its Coach revival series because of “creative issues,” Variety reports. The network had ordered a baker’s dozen of episodes, with original lead Craig T. Nelson coming back to star in what was described as more of a sequel than a reboot. The show, slated for a mid-season debut, was supposed to pick up 18 years after Coach had left ABC, with Nelson’s character leaving retirement to become the assistant coach of his son’s Ivy League team in Pennsylvania. Only a pilot episode had been filmed, but it was reportedly getting mixed internal reviews — those, on top of public skepticism raised by critics earlier at this year’s TCA tour. NBC’s president Bob Greenblatt notably defended the show, commenting: “It’s a way to do another variation on a family show with, I think, a truly talented star and a great showrunner and a presold title.” Streaming service, anyone? R.I.P., Coach, we hardly knew ye.
