Kirby Dick’s documentary about campus rape, The Hunting Ground, plays out like a horror film, and, appropriately, so does the video for its theme song. Lady Gaga contributed her emotional “Til It Happens to You,” co-written with Diane Warren, to the film earlier this year, and now the song has a music video directed by Catherine Hardwicke. The video features an ensemble cast, including Nikki Reed and Lilan Bowden, in scenes that depict just a few of the disturbing, traumatic ways sexual assault changes the lives of college students every day. Perhaps more important, it also shows how those who survive are strong enough to overcome their personal nightmares. A portion of sales from the song will go to organizations that aid sexual assault survivors.
