HBO Orders Issa Rae’s ‘Insecure’ to Series

Issa Rae is officially headed to HBO to star in her very own comedy. Deadline reports that the pay network has picked up to series Rae’s pilot Insecure, which she co-created with Larry Wilmore. The series is loosely based on Rae’s web series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and “follows the friendship of two modern-day black women, Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji) and all of their uncomfortable experiences and racy tribulations.” Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Prentice Penny will serve as showrunner, and Lisa Joyce and Jay Ellis round out the cast.
