A week after Carrie Fisher warned Daisy Ridley, “Don’t be a slave like I was,” rumors have emerged that Slave Leia merchandise will be consigned to the metaphorical sarlacc pit. According to a Facebook posting from Marvel artist J. Scott Campbell, Disney (which owns both Marvel and LucasFilm) is considering removing Slave Leia from the historical record like a scantily clad Leon Trotsky. “Disney is already well on its way to wiping out the ‘slave’ outfit from any future products period,” Campbell said. “You will NOT see [any] future merchandising featuring the slave outfit ever again.” Campbell also claimed that artists “can’t even draw Leia in a sexy pose at Marvel, let alone in that outfit,” adding, “We also had a 3-D [Slave Leia] statue killed at a major manufacturer because there will no longer be any [Slave Leia] merchandise.” Now all we need for true intergalactic gender equality is for Princess Leia to make more than 73 credits for every dollar Luke Skywalker makes.
