Seth Meyers Takes a Closer Look at Houston’s Fight for LGBTQ Rights

By

During last night’s “A Closer Look” segment on Late Night, Seth Meyers focused on Houston’s recent vote to reject a proposed anti-discrimination law called Houston’s Equal Rights Ordinance, which would’ve protected people from being discriminated at work or elsewhere for their race, age, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Anti-HERO groups then went and made tons of ads urging voters to oppose the ordinance, claiming that passing it would lead to men being allowed in women’s bathrooms – a completely incorrect conclusion, but it nevertheless swayed enough Houston voters to ultimately reject the law. “At the end of the day,” Meyers concluded, “campaigns like the one in Houston are powerful reminders that for LGBTQ people, there’s still a lot more work to be done to fight against both discrimination and terrible cartoons.”
