Welcome to The Second City Archives, in which we post an exclusive clip each week of some of comedy’s biggest superstars performing early in their careers on the legendary Chicago stage. Second City has generously given us a glimpse into their extensive archive of live performances, and over the coming weeks we’ll be sharing some rare and retro comedy never before seen on the web.
Jon Glaser and Scott Adsit are both headed to Adult Swim next month in Glaser’s series Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter, so for this week’s Second City Archives, we’ve got a special clip from 1994 featuring both of them. During Second City’s 35-year retrospective Old Wine in New Bottles, Adsit and Glaser performed a throwback sketch that originally debuted during the 1976 revue North by North Wells, which featured ensemble performers Eric Boardman, Don DePollo, Miriam Flynn, Steven Kampmann, Shelley Long, and Will Porter. The two play Madison Square Garden sportscasters at a Muhammad Ali/Ken Norton fight, which – unfortunately for them – ends a lot sooner than expected. Check out another great Second City sketch starring Adsit and Glaser here.
