Achievement unlocked: Movie maestro, noted confident guy Steven Spielberg also has a preternatural knack for job recs. He told CBS’s 60 Minutes recently that when Star Wars producer and former colleague Kathleen Kennedy spoke to him about Force Awakens helmers, he had but a single solution. “Kathy, there’s only one director that really should undertake this daunting, epic task,” Spielberg reportedly told her. “And that’s J.J. Abrams.” Sold, to the man with the rock-ribbed, epic point! “I had feelings of, Holy, what the … I can’t believe I’m here … constantly happening and I had to suppress that and say, Yep, okay, let’s do it … because the job was not to be a wide-eyed fanboy,” Abrams also told 60, of the dream gig. “The job was to be director of the movie.” There’s likely a little more to the initial Spielberg-Kennedy exchange, which CBS has teased ahead of its Star Wars report. But you’ll be able to catch the whole story, including footage of an excited Abrams running around a sound stage with John Williams, when it airs Sunday at 7 p.m.
