While rumors of that LCD Soundsystem reunion turned out to be sadly untrue, the James Murphy–led band just released a new song, to the surprise of everyone. “Christmas Will Break Your Heart,” a piano-driven ballad of the same sad vein as “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down,” is the first new LCD song in five years. They previously released “Oh You (Christmas Blue)” as part of the soundtrack for the film Greenberg in 2010. They broke up in 2011. The group posted this note on Twitter, explaining that the song had been rattling around in Murphy’s head for eight years:
