Maybe I’m just used to the quiet plinkety-plinkety soundscape of “Serial,” but the new trailer for Netflix’s Making a Murderer true-crime show is intense. Of course, the stakes of the upcoming docuseries as set up by the trailer are themselves pretty extreme. Either Wisconsin man Steven Avery murdered photographer Teresa Halbach, or the Manitowoc Country Sheriff’s Department framed him for the crime in order to avoid paying him for a previous wrongful conviction and incarceration. Or there could be a different but equally horrifying explanation for her death. Only one way to find out. The show drops December 18.
