Epix is celebrating International Women’s Day by turning a disappointing Hollywood statistic about gender equality into a six-part docu-series. As Flavorwire reports, on Tuesday, March 8th the network will premiere The 4%: Film’s Gender Problem, which is titled after Dr. Stacy L. Smith’s research into how many top-grossing films between 2002 and 2014 had women directors at the helm. Here’s what Smith said on the Epix series:
The series offers an opportunity for a national audience to hear from the entertainment industry directly about the issues women face both as filmmakers and in other creative roles. My research is clear: females face a very real fiscal cliff as they pursue work at the highest echelons of this industry. I am proud that my research is associated with a team and a network that cares about female filmmakers and creating systemic change.
Each installment is a separate short film, and plenty of comedy people are slated to show up throughout the series including Kristen Wiig, America Ferrera, Lake Bell, Paul Feig, Judd Apatow, and more.
