Matt Smith on Steven Moffat Leaving Doctor Who

In light of the news that Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat would be leaving the show after the 2017 season, to be replaced by Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall, Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor, chimed in on his friend’s departure. “I’m sad he’s leaving Doctor Who,” the actor said during a press junket for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. “He’s done so much for it and so much for me.” He went on: “He pretty much is Doctor Who, but the show will always endure and there’s a wonderful writer coming in and as always, it’s about regeneration and reinvention of things. But he has done so much for the show and I feel very privileged that I got to work with what I think is the greatest writer.” Current Doctor Peter Capaldi also recently hinted that he might depart the show, citing the insular world and unerring dedication it requires to portray the iconic time traveler.
