During Monday night's 26th annual Tibet House Benefit Concert, Iggy Pop used part of his stage time to pay tribute to David Bowie. The singer, first appearing with members of Patti Smith's band, covered his late friend and former collaborator's "Jean Genie," and, later in the evening, teamed up with Sharon Jones for their own rendition of the "Tonight" duet.
"It's a wonderful, elegant song, with a deceptively simple lyric," Iggy says above about "Tonight," noting that although they both recorded it, Bowie was the major force behind it. "I think it's the right lyric for right now, and for tonight." FKA Twigs, Gogol Bordello, and Basia Bulat were among other artists who performed at the Carnegie Hall event, which is curated by Philip Glass every year in support of preserving Tibetan culture.
