Kanye West’s last album was called Swish, and then Waves, and then whatever Kim Kardashian’s followers called it, and then, finally, The Life of Pablo. So when Kanye tweeted last night that his next album will be called Turbo Grafx 16, we can take the news as definitive and permanent. The TurboGrafx-16, by the way, is a video game console, built by NEC and Hudson Soft and released in the U.S. in 1989. The success of Nintendo and Sega’s products meant the TurboGrafx-16 never hit it big in the American market, though it was more successful in Japan, where it was known as the PC Engine. “Blazing Lazers was probably my favorite game on that console,” Kanye tweeted.
On Wednesday, Kanye announced that his next album would be out of this summer as part of his plan to fix the Grammys, though Kanye’s Twitter account isn’t the most reliable source for news. Still, the musician’s current “super nerd vibes” sync up with his current Silicon Valley obsession. Yeezy revealed the design of a video game that follows his mother’s ascent to heaven at his Madison Square Garden event earlier this month and has spent a lot of time on Twitter alternately slagging tech execs for their shortsightedness and asking them for money.
After sharing the news last night, Kanye went back on Twitter this morning to review Zoolander 2.
Zoolander 2 stands at 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, though the site does not count the word of Yeezus.
