Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda is in talks to be in a Mary Poppins sequel with Emily Blunt as the titular Poppins. Lin-Manuel would play Jack, a lamplighter resembling the character of Bert (the chim-chimney sweeper played by young hottie Dick Van Dyke). According to Variety, “Insiders confirm the new film will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written and 20 years after the first film was set) and will take story lines from P.L. Travers’ books focusing on Poppins’ continued adventures with the Banks family.” The original film, as best as anyone who doesn’t currently have children can remember, is about a magical nanny and a very dusty man who dances with cartoon penguins. We’re excited to see what the sequel has in store 52 years later, besides CG penguins this time around, probably.
