Kenan Thompson is joining Maya Rudolph and Martin Short’s long-gestating NBC variety show, Maya and Marty in Manhattan. Thompson will star in Maya and Marty, which will air weekly and premiere on May 31. This is a big change for Rudolph and Thompson, both SNL vets, as May 31 is a Tuesday, and far enough into the summer months that SNL is typically off for the year, but somehow we have a feeling they’ll manage. The series, produced by SNL’s Lorne Michaels, will feature sketches that target “current events, celebrities, and topical trends,” but mostly we want more of Maya Angelou pranking unsuspecting dignified celebrities.
