Every blue sky eventually becomes a sunset: Royal Pains, the medical procedural about an attractive doctor treating attractive patients in a variety of attractive Hamptons locations, will end after its upcoming eighth season, USA announced Thursday. Alongside Burn Notice and White Collar, Royal Pains was an indelible part of the network’s aggressively sunny turn-of-the-decade slate, which is on the way out in favor of a grittier approach aimed at the millennial audience. That sea change has brought us Mr. Robot, so it’s hard to be too sad about it, but still, this news does feel a bit like the end of an era. Farewell, Mark Feuerstein: May your smile brighten rainy Saturdays on the couch for years to come.
