John Oliver Heads to Sesame Street to Sing About Lead Poisoning

Here’s a segment from last night’s Last Week Tonight, where John Oliver looks at America’s lead crisis not just in Flint, Michigan but many other cities where lead pipes and paint are poisoning children and causing irreversible damage: “It is true that there is no safe level of lead. It’s one of those things so dangerous you shouldn’t even let a little bit of it inside you – much like heroin or Jeremy Piven.” Unfortunately, government funding for lead removal has fallen flat despite the fact that it’s been proven to be cost effective – plus, as Oliver points out, “I thought that poisoned children was something we were all justifiably outraged by.” Since Sesame Street made a song for kids about the dangers of lead 20 years ago and the problem still persists, Oliver headed there himself to join Elmo, Rosita, and Oscar for a slightly updated lead crisis song for 2016.
