Matt Walsh is also taking a turn in Netflix’s National Lampoon flick, according to Deadline. The UCB co-founder will play Matty Simmons, the movie producer and former CEO of the publishing company that owned the humor mag. Simmons was known, during his years tied to NL, for trying to push the comedy brand’s reach via such platforms as film, radio, and theater. You might know Walsh as Veep’s director of communications, who inadvertently (but hilariously) pushes Selina Meyer’s buttons with his incompetency, lethargy, and dog. Mustachioed or not, he joins Joel McHale, Will Forte, Domhnall Gleeson, Thomas Lennon, Jackie Tohn, John Gemberling, Martin Mull, and director David Wain. Their film, titled A Futile and Stupid Gesture, is slated for 2017 and takes after Josh Karp’s book of the same name, which details the life, career, and death of writer and NL co-founder Douglas Kenney.
Update: Deadline adds that Jon Daly (Kroll Show, Family Guy) and Rick Glassman (Undateable, The Comedians) are in, too. The former will play Bill Murray, and the latter is set as Harold Ramis.
