Pearl Mackie Is the New Doctor Who Companion

Pearl Mackie, who is currently appearing in the National Theatre’s West End production production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, will replace Jenna Coleman as the companion on Doctor Who. Her companion, named Bill, will traverse the boundaries of time and space with Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, who is not leaving the show, despite those long-gestating rumors. Coleman’s Clara left the show in 2015. The tenth season will be the last for head writer Steven Moffat, who announced in January that he’ll be replaced by Broadchurch’s Chris Chibnall. Mackie, who originally hails from Brixton, South London, graduated in 2010 from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Her list of credits, which is not very long, includes the TV shows Doctors and Svengali.
