Either Andre 3000 Is Actually Making That Solo Album or Chris Rock Trolled Us All

Chris Rock is a funny man, or so we’ve been led to believe. He has also been known to lend his voice to an album skit — two truths that make what we’re about to tell you all the more confusing. Thursday night, Chris Rock tweeted the humblest of brags with a squad photo of himself, Andre 3000, Jack White, Dave Chappelle, A Tribe Called Quest’s Jarobi, and D-Nice in the studio. That alone would’ve been a big deal, but it’s this one bit of the caption that has rap fans in a tizzy: “hard at work on the new Andre 3000 album.” Mmmmmohmygod.

Now before we lose ourselves in wild speculation, here are the facts: Andre 3000, rap unicorn, has not released an album in a decade and has never technically put out a solo album. He occasionally comes out from hiding to guest on songs (like, most recently, Kanye’s “30 Hours” and Erykah Badu’s “Hello”) and to act, but earlier this year he did drop a bomb to Billboard that he’s “always recording” and would “like to put out some kind of music project, but we’ll see.”

Well, what we see now is actual evidence that said “music project” might actually exist beyond Andre’s imagination. That is if we’re to trust that Chris Rock, a man who makes a living cracking jokes, isn’t pulling a fast one on us. And that’s a big if. But wait! Behold this other photo of them in the studio with Q-Tip! Sitting at an actual soundboard! You now have our permission to speculate wildly.
