NBC Renews The Carmichael Show For a Third Season

Well, that didn’t take long: NBC has ordered a third season of The Carmichael Show, just a few hours after it appeared NBC and producer 20th Century Fox TV were at an impasse over the shape of a renewal. The Peacock has picked up 13 more episodes of comic Jerrod Carmichael’s eponymous family comedy, which has quickly become one of TV’s best-reviewed half-hour comedies. Per two industry insiders, NBC had initially told 20th it wanted to commit to just 10 episodes of the show, an unusually small number for a broadcast sitcom entering its third season. While 13 isn’t a dramatically bigger number, it was enough to get both sides to sign off on a renewal. As one does, Carmichael reacted to the news via Twitter. “Season 3 of The Carmichael Show is happening, and it’s thanks to all of you,” the comic/actor wrote. There’s no word yet on when the new season will launch, though it’ll be more likely than not sometime in early 2017. A new episode will air tonight at 8 p.m.
