CBS’s Nancy Drew, whose pilot was written by Joan Rater and Tony Phelan (Grey’s Anatomy) and executive-produced by Rater, Phelan, and Dan Jinks, has not been picked up by the network for a series order. Persian actress Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest) would’ve been the first person of color to play Nancy Drew onscreen. The show was going to use the book series as a jumping-off point, portraying Nancy in her 30s, working as a police officer in New York City. The pilot is now being shopped around to other networks. Interestingly, Deadline reports that the pilot episode tested well with audiences, but in the end it skewed “too female” for the network’s schedule. Boo.
