The frustration over the casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One in Marvel's upcoming Doctor Strange continues. Marvel's response thus far has been perplexing, claiming the character is actually Celtic. (Where are the Druid stones then, hmmm?) Most recently, human gem George Takei got into the conversation, dismantling all of these arguments and pointing out that the Tibet question is a red herring, since the film is already set in Nepal. Well, the director of the film, Scott Derrickson, best known for horror flicks like Deliver Us From Evil and Sinister, tweeted a brief response Wednesday, saying that he was "listening and learning."
Raw anger/hurt from Asian-Americans over Hollywood whitewashing, stereotyping & erasure of Asians in cInema.— Scott Derrickson (@scottderrickson) May 4, 2016
I am listening and learning.
