Lee Daniels Will No Longer Direct the Richard Pryor Biopic

THR reports that the long-in-development biopic Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said? has lost Lee Daniels and is looking for a new director. The Oscar-nommed helmer had been attached to the project for more than two years, and was set to work with Mike Epps as Pryor, Oprah Winfrey as Pryor's grandmother, and Kate Hudson as Jennifer Lee Pryor, among other stars, using Bill Condon's script. Sunday's update comes because a very busy Daniels had asked to delay the already-delayed production, according to the trade, but the Weinstein Company didn't want to wait. Shooting is still slated to start in October, but replacement speculation surely starts now.
