Wow, what in the hell kind of tennis movie is this?  Anyone looking forward to Shia LaBeouf’s upcoming John McEnroe biopic should come prepared to sob into their Cherry Coke Icee and frozen Raisinets. At least, according to LaBeouf, who told Variety that he chose to play the hot-headed tennis great on the basis of the film’s emotionally stirring screenplay. “The script is brilliant. We are all here because of that. I cried the first time I read it. It’s not based on a book or a biography. It’s based on hard work,” LaBeouf explained. Written by Ronnie Sandahl, Borg Vs. McEnroe explores the rivalry between tennis stars McEnroe and Björn Borg, portrayed by Sverrir Gudnason, culminating in their 1980 Wimbledon match. LaBeouf didn’t get into details of the movie’s plot, so no word on whether the film explores McEnroe’s ability to jump 15 feet straight into the air as depicted in the 2002 documentary Mr. Deeds.
