Mexico’s The Voice Singer Alejandro Fuentes Dead at 45

Alejandro “Jano” Fuentes, who achieved success as being a finalist on the Mexican version of The Voice in 2011, has died after being shot in an ambush while celebrating his birthday with friends on Thursday evening. The 45-year-old singer was in a car with friends outside his Tras Bambalinas School  a performing arts school and studio for youths that he owned  in Chicago’s southwest side when an armed man approached him, tried to coerce him out of the car, and fired multiple shots, many of which hit his head, when he refused to move. Fuentes was transported to Mount Sinai hospital, where he died on Saturday afternoon.

Chicago police are currently searching for a suspect behind the ambush, as well as determining whether this was an attempted robbery or carjacking. (WGN reports that the gunman fled the scene in a waiting vehicle.) The attack comes a week after the murder of The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie, who died after being fatally shot at a concert in Orlando, Florida.
