Apple has won a new patent on technology that could make the concert experience oh so much sweeter: According to Pitchfork, the new tech enables infrared data beamed out by a music venue or movie theater to disable the camera features on Apple devices. If enacted, the technology would be a boon for musicians and record labels, who consider concert videos on YouTube potential revenue lost, and also for those fans tired of small, glowing screens blocking their views of the stage.

It’s worth noting that the patent may not be used in future operating systems, as it was originally filed in 2009, during the dark days of the iPhone 3S. Still, this is just one more sign that Prince died too soon.
