The long (long) awaited Beverly Hills Cop 4 has finally found its directors in Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the duo behind TIFF darling Black. According to Deadline, the young Belgian filmmakers won over the hearts of star Eddie Murphy and producer Jerry Bruckheimer when they revealed “how important the original Beverly Hills Cop was to them.” The pair will also reportedly bring “youthful energy” to the franchise, which, considering that both were born after the original movie’s 1984 release, seems like a fair assessment. Meanwhile, Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) will use their experience coasting on nostalgic name recognition to pen the screenplay. Of course, considering the fact that it’s been over 20 years since 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop 3 and that Arbi and Fallah are not the first directors hired for the sequel, you probably shouldn’t hold your breath until Axel Foley is back to solving crimes, or you might drop it.
