Bryan Cranston Is Totally Down With Bringing Walter White to Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul, but best call Bryan Cranston. He who broke bad says he’s ready and willing to bring Walter White back for the Breaking Bad prequel. While on The Rich Eisen Show, Cranston said he’d be “all in” if Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul honcho Vince Gilligan asked him to reprise his role, explaining, “I owe Vince Gilligan so much. He was my champion to get this role. I was the guy coming off Malcolm in the Middle.” Cranston continued: “‘If they were to call me and say, ‘We have this idea, we’d like … ,’ I would say, ‘Yes, you don’t have to finish the pitch. I’m there, what do you want me to do?’” While Walter White might sign on just for the rush of feeling alive, Cranston’s willing to help out Gilligan and company because, “I know how careful they are and proprietary they are with those characters and those storylines, and it wouldn’t be something, ‘Oh, isn’t that kind of a stunt casting kind of thing.’ It would be something kind of unique and obscure and creative, and I’m all in.”

Indeed, Cranston copped to being quite the BCS fan, so much so that the show invited Cranston to direct an episode, and he is wavering because of spoilers. “I’m a fan of the show and in order to direct, I need to know what no fan knows … and there’s a part of me that says that would kind of kill it for me as a fan to peek behind the curtain, so I don’t know if I am or not.” Bryan Cranston: a rare model of restraint in an excessive age.
