Eddie Murphy Might Star in a Netflix Mockumentary About a ’60s Soul Singer

Eddie Murphy and Brett Ratner are teaming up for a new project in the works at Netflix. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy is in negotiations to star in a mockumentary for the streaming network called Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story. Written by Chris Case (Legit, Sin City Saints), the movie will center on “an iconic ‘60s soul singer named Murray Murray. After a hot new artist samples his hit 1962 song, Murray attempts to get his old band back together in the hopes of taking down hip-hop.”

Back in October, Brian Grazer – who is attached to Soul Soul Soul as a producer – revealed he had a Netflix film in the works with Murphy, calling it “a tour de force movie that’s cinema verite with Eddie Murphy being as raw as he can be.” Murphy and Ratner are reportedly waiting to see the script before they officially sign on to the project, and considering Murphy backed out of Beverly Hills Cop IV after reading the script and calling it “a shitty movie,” it’s probably a good idea to not get your hopes up about Soul Soul Soul just yet.
