Earlier this week, The Daily Show’s Hasan Minhaj gave a speech at the 72nd annual Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association Dinner, and after almost 20 minutes of jokes, Minhaj got serious in the wake of the tragic mass shooting in Orlando and called out Congress for taking money from the NRA and failing to act on gun control measures. “Ultimately, I’ve just got to ask you this: When I got into comedy, when you guys got into media, when you guys got into politics, we wanted to do the best work we could possibly do,” Minhaj says. “And is this what you want your legacy to be? That you were a could’ve-done-something Congress but you didn’t because of outside lobbying? That you were complicit in the deaths of thousands of Americans?” The whole video is well worth the watch, but definitely don’t miss what Minhaj says near the end – and how quickly the crowd turns from chuckling to extremely uncomfortable.
