Go Back to the Past As Coldplay and Michael J. Fox Play ‘Johnny B. Goode’

In a scene out of an ’80s kid’s dream movie Back to the Future IV: What Could Have Been, Michael J. Fox brought some of that Marty McFly flair out of retirement and hopped onstage with Coldplay during their concert at New Jersey’s Metlife Stadium on Sunday night. Front man Chris Martin played a video of his 10-year-old son, Moses, requesting the band play a song from the best movie of all time (Back to the Future). Never one to disappoint his son — or miss an opportunity for a special celebrity guest appearance — Martin broke out the jams from the iconic Enchanted Under the Sea dance scene: “Earth Angel” and “Johnny B. Goode.” Fox and his guitar were introduced early on in the ballad and seemed happy enough, but it was clear that during the second song, as he remembered the time he went into the past, kissed his mom, and invented rock and roll, Fox felt the full force of current-day nostalgia for ’80s nostalgia of the ’50s.
