Matt Damon Says He’ll Do a Superhero Movie If Ben Affleck Directs It, Makes a Promise He Knows He Won’t Have to Keep

You could've just said no, buddy! Matt Damon was asked by the Irish Examiner if he'd ever star in a superhero movie (oh, is that not what The Martian's deal was?), and instead of politely declining, Damon said he would ... under an impossible set of circumstances. Damon's one tiny requirement is that his good pal Ben Affleck step behind the camera for the movie, and it's a done deal. "If he (Ben) was directing me, I’d jump on it in a New York minute. I’d love to work with Ben," Damon said. But Damon knows as well as we do that the odds of Affleck directing Damon in a superhero movie are slightly short of mythic. Damon explained: "The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie, he gives himself the best role in it, so until he’s willing to give up the best role to one of his friends, we’re not going to get on with it." Now, we know what you're thinking — and you can stop right there. The Irish Examiner says Damon "laughed" at the prospect of being the Robin to Affleck's Batman. Come on, Matt. After all, Ben's been your sidekick.
