Sometimes TV creators must bend to a television trope, and for fast-paced medical dramas, there is perhaps no archetype more important than the Hot Doctor. For the CBS medical drama Code Black that means hiring Rob Lowe, rising from the ashes of The Grinder like a perfectly coiffed phoenix. Lowe will make his debut in the season two premiere as Colonel Ethan Willis, an “aggressive and rule-breaking” doctor pulled out of a combat hospital in Afghanistan and embedded at Angels Memorial so that he can impart his knowledge of wartime medicine to other doctors. This casting is especially crucial considering Code Black cut hot doctor Raza Jaffrey from the cast, and everyone knows it takes at least three hot doctors to save a life. Code Black returns September 28.
