It’s only fitting that Iron Man and Mr. Robot have a natural rapport, and, lo and behold: Robert Downey Jr. and Rami Malek are good friends. Downey Jr., a Mr. Robot “superfan,” talked to his apparently close pal Malek for Interview Magazine, and oh did the unlikely celebrity-friendship details come rolling on through. First of all, while Malek may be a big deal in certain circles, even to Mr. Robot’s own cast and crew, he’s no Downey Jr. Apparently it took Downey Jr. visiting Malek on set to earn Malek some serious cool-kid cred. Malek explained: “You turned me into a hero when you came to set. I’m not kidding. They were like, ‘You know him?’ ‘How do you know him?’ I knew it was very cool to know you, but the world started paying me more attention on that day on set. Maybe I elaborated on our relationship too much and started fantasizing it was more than it actually was. No, I just told them how close we were and that we hang out, we celebrate holidays together, we watch movies together, all of which is true!” Please, let it be so. Can’t you just see the two of them hitting the slopes in matching Christmas sweaters, sipping their (virgin) Mai Tais in complementary Aloha shirts?

Still, the bond of surprisingly good-friends-hood can’t break the tighter bond of a good ol’ NDA. When Downey Jr. pressed Malek for Mr. Robot spoilers, Malek played coy, giving Downey Jr. a taste of his own medicine. Downey Jr. said: “I feel like I’m doing like a Marvel interview right now, and I’m the person who’s not going to get any answers that I want.” Downey Jr. gaining some sympathy for the plight of the spoiler-parched: Seems like a good place to stop!
