Following last week’s fatal police shootings of black men and the deadly shooting of five police officers in Dallas, there have been some very smart opinions about how the U.S. can progress from here. And then there are the beliefs of former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, who spent his weekend whitesplaining how to raise black children and black-on-black crime, all while dismissing Black Lives Matter as a “racist organization.” On Monday night, Seth Meyers had a few words for Giuliani: “Shut the fuck up.” He went on to dismantle the myth of “All Lives Matter” and, much to Meyers’s dismay, even pointed to Newt Gingrich (“a man so white he’s basically a pair of boat shoes come to life”) as an example of one politician with enough sense to at least acknowledge the country’s racial disparity if he’s not going to also shut the fuck up.
