You’re Killin’ Me, Smalls! The Sandlot (1993)
In this classic summer movie, a ragtag team of kids gets in and out of trouble while playing baseball on a dusty neighborhood field. The retrograde pool scene hasn’t aged well, but The Sandlot still has one of the best Erector Set scenes of all time. Leaving August 1.
Peak Will Smith: The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Based on the real-life story of Chris Gardner, a salesman hustling to raise his 5-year-old son, The Pursuit of Happyness is the kind of mid-budget drama movie stars rarely do anymore. With the help of Will Smith at the height of his star power, the movie managed to be a box-office powerhouse and the tenth-highest-grossing movie of 2006. Leaving August 27.
Space Jumanji: Zathura (2005)
These days, we are all about small Kristen Stewart movies, so what about this hidden gem? See, it’s this inventive sci-fi drama about kids who get lost in space, and it tries to tackle big ideas, like “What if a board game ruled space and time?” Okay, to be fair, Zathura is not a good movie, but any true Kristen Stewart completionist knows that’s beside the point. Leaving August 31.
Spike’s “Big” Movie: Inside Man (2006)
Jodie Foster, Denzel Washington, and Clive Owen navigate a bank robbery turned hostage situation, which is then turned into something else entirely in Spike Lee’s most commercially successful film to date. Lee has talked about making a sequel for years, but the funding has never materialized. Now, if he pulled off the perfect bank robbery … Leaving August 1.
What Doesn’t Kill Us: Roseanne (Collection 2)
Netflix only licenses select episodes, or “collections,” of Roseanne at a time, so while “Collection 3” is arriving on Netflix next month, “Collection 2” is leaving. You don’t have to worry about losing the series’ cohesion, since Roseanne is as episodic as a sitcom comes. Still, it’s a pity to lose “A Stash From the Past,” an all-time great episode that sends Dan, Jackie, and Roseanne on drug and nostalgia trips after they find a bag of pot in one of the kids’ rooms. Leaving August 1.
