YouTube star and model Gigi Gorgeous claims she was denied entry into Dubai and detained at its airport for several hours because she's transgender. The 24-year-old, who famously documented her transition online, told TMZ that upon attempting to enter the country, she was stopped by an immigration officer who informed her, "I was told you are transgender. You cannot come into the country." She says her passport has been updated to reflect her changed legal name (Gigi Loren) and correct gender identity, but airport security officials told TMZ otherwise. In an emotional Instagram post, Gigi says she was held by airport security for over five hours and wasn't released until her friend, model Nats Getty, "came to rescue me." She says she has now changed her travel plans to "somewhere much more accepting." Earlier this year, fellow YouTuber JusReign blasted San Francisco's airport TSA for racially profiling him and forcing him to remove his turban.
After being detained and held at the Dubai airport for over 5 hours, this was the moment my baby came to rescue me. Yesterday was one of the scariest moments of my entire life and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. How you can be denied entry somewhere just because of who you are is seriously disgusting and also very scary. This further proves the need for CHANGE. I am now on my way to somewhere much more accepting. Safe and sound and happy. I love you guys💋
