Your Dreams of Owning a Kanye-Designed Malm Furniture Set From Ikea Are Over

If you’ve ever thought to yourself, Boy, I’d sure like to sit on whatever Kanye thinks is a chair, you’re potentially in luck. Mr. West recently discussed his desire to work with the Swedish furniture and home-goods company with BBC Radio 1. “I have to work with Ikea — make furniture for interior design, for architecture,” he explained. Kanye waxed excited about potentially creating a line to furnish “a minimalist apartment inside of a college dorm,” even imagining the kids clamoring for his line: “Yo, Ikea, allow Kanye to create, allow him to make this thing because you know what? I want a bed that he makes, I want a chair that he makes.” West was spotted visiting Ikea’s head office in Almhult, Sweden, earlier this year, and has literally done everything he has ever set his mind to, so it seems inevitable that soon you’ll be screaming at your significant other about table finishes in front of a Kanye original.

Update: As the Swedish would say: Gasp! This time around, what Kanye wants, Kanye does not get. Ikea has responded to Ye’s desires to join the Scandinavian furniture world with a a big, fat, zaftig no. “At IKEA we are constantly curious about different people, companies, artists and events around the world. To have these connections and inspiring meetings is an important way for us to find new ways to create a better everyday life for the many people,” the company said in a statement to CNBC. “Although we are really flattered by Kanye West’s high interest in IKEA and the speculation around a joint venture, we have no plans to collaborate at this point in time.” Your move, Raymour & Flanigan.
