At tonight’s Video Music Awards, Queen Bey took to the white carpet with a dozen of her squad members, including Blue Ivy; singers Chloe and Halle, who have signed to her Parkwood management company; model Winnie Harlow, and Quvenzhané Wallis, among others. But most notably, Beyoncé brought Wanda Johnson, the mother of Oscar Grant; Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner; Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin; and Lesley McSpadden-Head, the mother of Michael Brown, Jr. Each of those women lost a child to gun violence in situations that were highly racially charged, and they also appeared in her Lemonade video project.
