A Day-by-Day Schedule of the 2016 Rio Olympics

The 2016 Summer Olympics have finally arrived, with the Opening Ceremonies kicking things off into high gear on August 5. So, are you wondering when your favorite event is scheduled to compete? This year’s Olympic Games include 42 sports and 306 medal events, and Vulture has the breakdown of when it's all happening. Wednesday, August 3
Two days before the Opening Ceremonies, the games will cover the group stage of women’s soccer throughout the day, running from noon–8 p.m.*

Major Events:

Team USA plays New Zealand, 6–8 p.m.

Thursday, August 4
Thursday will cover the group stage of men’s soccer throughout the day, running from noon–11 p.m.

Major Events:

Brazil plays South Africa in hopes of winning their first soccer gold medal, 3–5 p.m.

Friday, August 5
There will be coverage of the archery ranking round throughout the day for both men and women, but the main event on Friday is the Opening Ceremonies, which start at 7 p.m. with the parade of nations and conclude with the cauldron lighting.

Saturday, August 6
Saturday’s medal events include archery, cycling, fencing, judo, shooting, swimming, and weight lifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of water polo, gymnastics, beach volleyball, soccer, field hockey, and volleyball.

Major Events:
Gymnastics, 1:30–4 p.m. — U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Qualifications
Swimming, 9–11 p.m. — Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay

Day 2: Sunday, August 7
Sunday’s medal events include archery, cycling, diving, fencing, judo, shooting, swimming, and weight lifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of beach volleyball, volleyball, gymnastics, and soccer.

Major Events:
Gymnastics, 4:30–6 p.m. — U.S. women’s gymnastics qualifications
Swimming, 9–11 p.m. — Women’s 400m freestyle and men’s 4x100m relay

Monday, August 8
Monday’s medal events include diving, fencing, gymnastics, judo, rugby, shooting, swimming, and weight lifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of field hockey, water polo, volleyball, and beach volleyball.

Major Events:

Fencing, 8 a.m.–5:15 p.m. — Women’s individual sabre fencing
Gymnastics, 3–6 p.m. — Men’s team Final
Rugby, 6–6:30 p.m. — Women’s final (This is the first time rugby sevens is a part of the Olympics)
Swimming, 9–11 p.m. — Men’s 100m backstroke and women’s 100m backstroke

Tuesday, August 9
Tuesday’s medal events include canoe/kayaking, diving, equestrian, fencing, gymnastics, judo, shooting, swimming, and weight lifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of volleyball, beach volleyball, and soccer.

Major Events:
Gymnastics, 3–5:10 p.m. — Women’s team final
Swimming, 9–11 p.m. — Women’s 200m freestyle and men’s 4x200m freestyle relay

Wednesday, August 10
Wednesday’s medal events include canoe/kayaking, cycling, diving, fencing, gymnastics, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and weight lifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of volleyball, field hockey, water polo, beach volleyball, and soccer.

Major Events:
Gymnastics, 3–5:45 p.m. — Men’s all-around final
Swimming, 9–11 p.m. — Men’s 100m freestyle

Thursday, August 11
Thursday’s medal events include archery, canoe/kayaking, cycling, fencing, gymnastics, judo, rowing, rugby, shooting, swimming, and table tennis. There will also be coverage throughout the day of water polo, field hockey, and volleyball.

Major Events:
Judo, 2:30–4:40 p.m. — Women’s 78kg medal rounds
Gymnastics, 3–5:10 p.m. — Women’s all-around final
Rugby, 6–6:30 p.m. — Men’s final
Swimming, 9–11 p.m. — 200m individual medley final

Friday, August 12
Friday’s medal events include archery, cycling, equestrian, fencing, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, tennis, track and field, trampoline, weight lifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of water polo, field hockey, and volleyball.

Major Events:
Track and Field, 10:10 a.m. — Women’s 10,000m final
Shooting, 2–3 p.m. — Women’s skeet shooting
Swimming, 9–11 p.m. — Women’s 200m backstroke final, Men’s 100m butterfly final, and Women’s 800m freestyle final

Saturday, August 13
Saturday’s medal events include cycling, fencing, rowing, shooting, swimming, tennis, track and field, trampoline, and weight lifting. There will also be coverage throughout the day of water polo, field hockey, and volleyball.

Major Events:
Rowing, 9:40–9:50 a.m. — Women’s-eight final
Tennis, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. — Women’s singles medal matches
Cycling, 3:53–4:21 p.m. — Women’s team pursuit final
Track and Field, 7–10:15 p.m. — Men’s 10,000m final and women’s 100m final

Sunday, August 14
Sunday’s medal events include boxing, cycling, diving, fencing, golf, gymnastics, sailing, shooting, tennis, track and field, weight lifting, and wrestling. There will also be coverage of volleyball and water polo.

Major Events:
Golf, 6 a.m.–3 p.m. — Men’s Final Round
Tennis, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. — Men’s Singles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles Finals
Gymnastics, 1–4 p.m. — Apparatus Finals

Track and Field, 7:30–9:50 p.m. — Men’s 800m Final and Women’s 400m Final

Tuesday, August 16
Tuesday’s medal events include boxing, canoe/kayaking, cycling, diving, gymnastics, sailing, swimming, synchronized swimming, table tennis, track and field, weight lifting, and wrestling. There will also be coverage of soccer throughout the day.

Major Events:
Track and Field, 8:50–10:15 a.m. — Men’s Triple Jump Final and Women’s Discus Final
Gymnastics, 1–3:15 p.m. — Men’s Parallel Bars, Women’s Floor, and Men’s High Bar (note: this is the final day of gymnastics competition)
Weightlifting, 6–7:40 p.m. — Men’s Super Heavyweight Final
Track and Field, 7:30–9:50 p.m. — Women’s 1500m and 110m Hurdles

Wednesday, August 17
Wednesday’s medal events include badminton, beach volleyball, boxing, equestrian, sailing, table tennis, tae kwon do, track and field, and wrestling. There will also be coverage of soccer throughout the day.

Thursday, August 18
