Sam Mendes may be done with the James Bond franchise, but he isn’t done with the name James. Nope, a strong, royal name with real oomph, that’s what Sam Mendes says to himself about a name like James. Probably, anyways, since Deadline reports that Mendes is in early talks to usher a live-action adaptation of James and the Giant Peach to the big screen — and you don’t embark on an endeavor like that for the fruit. Mendes would develop and direct the latest adaptation of the project, which began life as a Ronald Dahl book before ripening into an animated Disney movie. Nick Hornby is set to pen the screenplay about an orphan who befriends the “human-like” bug residents of a larger-than-average peach before making the trek — attempted by all manner of man and creature before them — to a fruit larger still, the Big Apple.
