Star Trek: Discovery Lead Character Will Be Called ‘Number One’

Star Trek: Discovery's showrunner Bryan Fuller is bad at keeping secrets, but we're not complaining. At the Television Critics Association’s press tour on August 10, he already revealed that the series will have a female lead and a gay character. But he's not done! According to Uproxx, the female lead will be called “Number One” in reference to Majel Barrett’s character in the original Star Trek pilot. This probably means she'll be a first officer aboard a ship. The phrase caught on when in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Patrick Stewart called his first officer, William Riker, Number One, as often as he possibly could.
