While the Emmy Awards' "In Memoriam" segment is more medium-agnostic than the Oscars' — Sunday night's ceremony featured tributes to Prince, David Bowie, Merle Haggard, and Anton Yelchin — snubs still remain. One notable name left off this year's segment was Christina Grimmie, the YouTube star and Voice contestant who was fatally shot after a concert in June. After the omission, the singer's fans spoke out on Twitter to protest her snub, with some noting that other musicians with less of a connection to television (The Voice took home the trophy for Outstanding Reality Competition Program) were included.
Considering the number of other singers in the #Emmys in memoriam.. where was Christina Grimmie?— Charlotte (@CharlotteCant) September 19, 2016
#Emmys you forgot the young and very talented Christina Grimmie on your "In memoriam" so sad— Katherine Sánchez M. (@KathySanchezM) September 19, 2016
You didn't even mention Christina Grimmie? Where's the justice? #Emmys— heymacooo (@MacoKatigbak) September 19, 2016
So the #Emmys left Christina Grimmie out of the "In Memoriam" segment yet The Voice just won an Emmy tonight. Something ain't right here 🤔— Gleekel (@GleekyZ) September 19, 2016
