It must be fun to be friends with Michel Gondry. Every once in a while, the director could just call you up out of the blue and say something along the lines of “Hey, I made a music video for that shelved single you were going to put out back in 2005 and are finally releasing now.” And you’d say, “Oh, you mean ‘City Lights,’ originally written for Get Behind Me Satan, now out on the compilation album Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016?
