Nick Gordon was found legally responsible for the 2015 death of his girlfriend Bobbi Kristina Brown, the Associated Press reports. A judge in Atlanta’s Fulton County Superior Court found in favor of Brown’s estate in the culmination of a wrongful-death lawsuit filed last year that accused Gordon of assault, theft, and fraud, and signed an order that said Gordon repeatedly missed court deadlines in the civil case, and therefore lost the suit by default. Brown, the daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown, was found unresponsive in her bathtub in June 2015, and her estate’s conservator alleged that Gordon got into a “loud argument” with her on the night of her death, then gave her a “toxic cocktail” that rendered her unconscious. A jury trial will determine the damages that Gordon is liable for, but Brown’s estate is asking for $50 million. Though Gordon has not been criminally charged with Brown’s death, her estate’s lawyer said he was satisfied with the verdict. “It’s not a criminal case but it doesn’t have to be,” he said. “We want to legally establish [Gordon] was responsible for her injuries that preceded her death and we’ve done that today.”
