Here’s a clip from last night’s Late Night, where Seth Meyers returned with a new “A Closer Look” segment to examine how news channels like CNN covered the New Jersey and Manhattan bombings over the weekend as well as how the presidential candidates responded, with Hillary Clinton choosing to wait for all the facts to come in and Donald Trump jumping ahead to conclusions and ultimately exploiting the event to promote his anti-immigrant, anti-Muslim stance. “I think Trump could’ve learned a thing or two from actual New Yorkers, who showed the world just how calm they can be in the face of crisis,” Meyers says. “You know what New Yorkers did the day after the bombing? They got on trains with Muslims, they rode in cabs with Muslims, they were protected by Muslim police officers, they worked and played alongside Muslims. Because New Yorkers know that ‘Muslim’ and ‘terrorist’ are not synonyms – kind of like ‘Trump’ and presidential.’”
